Welcome!
Welcome to Yacht Surveying 1!
The word “surveying” has different meanings:
- To look carefully at the whole of something, especially in order to get a general impression of it;
- To study and give a general description of something;
- To measure and record the features of an area of land, for example, in order to make a map or in preparation for building;
- To investigate the opinions or behavior of a group of people by asking them a series of questions.
Yacht Surveying encompasses all of the four definitions above:
- To inspect carefully every part of the yacht to get a general impression of it;
- To get familiar with the construction and design of the yacht;
- Take measurements of items, areas, etc., of the yacht and record those measurements;
- To investigate reasons for an issue or damage or monitor the yacht’s behavior while at sea.
Finally, we can say that yacht surveying is the inspection of a yacht or a boat conducted by a Marine Surveyor, who is a professional acting on behalf of a client. Different types of surveys are possible depending on their purpose and goal (e.g., pre-purchase, condition, damage, rig and sails, valuations, and sea trials surveys).
