Hi, everyone. Welcome to our new course on Yacht Surveying.
My name is Vladimir Kostov, and I will be the instructor for this course. We have designed the course in a way that is suitable for everyone who is passionate about boats and yachts and wants to venture a little further into the boating world.
The course is divided into four sections, each with separate modules related to the topic of that section. Yes, surveying is a practical job, and yes, you have to be ready to get your hands dirty if you want to do this work. However, we will also look at some desk-based, regulatory, and legal matters, knowledge of which can always be a valuable advantage in the surveyor’s profession.
In the first section of the course, Introduction and Regulatory Matters, we will go through some of the main international organizations that form an inseparable part of the marine industry. We will briefly explain their involvement in the marine industry as a whole and provide practical examples wherever possible. Of course, we will also talk about the rules and regulations that must be observed in the industry.
In the second section of the course, Types of Surveys, we will look at the different types of surveys that a surveyor may be requested to perform during their career. Here, we will also touch on some of the organizations in the marine industry that may be directly involved in requesting and giving instructions for the performance of those different types of surveys. We will also try to provide practical pointers for surveyors when performing these surveys.
In the third section of the course, Surveying Crafts of Different Construction Materials, we will look at the main types of construction materials used in boatbuilding and the specific considerations involved in inspecting boats depending on those different materials.
In the final section, The Survey Process, we will discuss some important matters related to the survey itself. This will include guidance on preparation and on the survey process as a whole. We will also provide practical guidance on safety-related matters because, as mentioned earlier, surveying is a practical job, and you must be in the field to do it.
Being in the field requires working around various types of equipment and machinery, which may present different hazards to personal health and well-being. For this reason, practical safety measures must be taken.
We hope that you will enjoy our course, and we look forward to starting this journey into the world of yacht surveying together with you.urney into the Yacht Surveying world together with you.
