Welcome!

The term “surveying” has various meanings:

  1. To carefully examine the entirety of something, particularly to form a general impression of it.
  2. To study and provide a general description of something.
  3. To measure and document the characteristics of a piece of land, for instance, for mapping or construction purposes.
  4. To inquire about the opinions or behavior of a group of people by asking them a series of questions.

Yacht Surveying encompasses all of the above definitions:

  1. Carefully inspecting every part of the yacht to form a general impression of it.
  2. Familiarizing oneself with the construction and design of the yacht.
  3. Taking measurements of various components and areas of the yacht, and recording these measurements.
  4. Investigating reasons for any issues or damages, or monitoring the yacht’s behavior while at sea.

In conclusion, yacht surveying involves the inspection of a yacht or a boat conducted by a Marine Surveyor, who is a professional acting on behalf of a client. As we will unfold during the course, various types of surveys are possible depending on their purpose and goal (e.g., pre-purchase, condition, damage, rig and sails, valuations, and sea trials surveys).
