Welcome to the Course
Welcome to Yacht Interior Design 1, the first course in a three-course series dedicated to yacht interior design.
This course introduces the essential concepts, methods, and professional considerations involved in designing yacht interiors. You will explore yacht interior areas, space planning, General Arrangement drawings, furniture, components, materials and finishes, design representation, project presentation, and the main stages of the yacht interior design process.
The course is suitable for complete beginners, as well as students, designers, architects, naval architects, and marine-industry professionals who want to develop or expand their knowledge of yacht interiors.
The Yacht Interior Design series has been developed by Lisandro Torres and Yania Demaria. It combines Lisandro’s extensive professional experience in yacht interior and exterior design with Yania’s experience in naval architecture, three-dimensional modeling, and interior design. Yania is also the Navalapp instructor for the Yacht 3D Modeling with Rhino course series.
In Yacht Interior Design 1, Lisandro Torres will guide you through the professional context, fundamental principles, practical methods, and project-development stages that form the foundation of yacht interior design.
Course Overview
Yacht Interior Design 1 provides a structured foundation in the particular requirements and challenges involved in designing yacht interiors, including limited space, movement, environmental conditions, space planning, materials, colors, textures, furniture, and different interior areas.
You will begin by examining the role of the yacht interior designer, the principal types and general dimensions of yachts, and the interior differences between yachts and superyachts, as well as sailing yachts and motor yachts. Particular attention is given to General Arrangement drawings and their importance in understanding and organizing a yacht’s interior areas, layouts, furniture, and components.
The course then follows the yacht interior design process through its principal stages: concept development, design development, verification, production, delivery, after-sales, and refit considerations. You will also consider physical mock-ups, technical constraints, suppliers, client approval, and practical production considerations.
You will study conventional and non-standard yacht interior areas, standard, semi-custom, and custom furniture, fixed and loose components, and the materials and finishes used aboard yachts. The course also introduces the systems, insulation, structure, compartments, mounting frames, glazing, and finishes that affect yacht interiors.
A dedicated representation section introduces sketching, floor plans, General Arrangement drawings, cabin and furniture drawings, two-dimensional and three-dimensional methods, common design software, and applications of artificial intelligence in yacht interior design and representation.
In the final part of the course, you will learn how to structure and present a yacht interior design project using a design brief, mood board, floor plan, materials and finishes selection, and visualization methods. The course concludes with a final project in which you design or redesign a yacht interior area.
The course also introduces professional roles, employment options, career opportunities, and portfolio development, helping you understand possible career paths in yacht interior design and how to begin presenting your work professionally.

Which Course Should You Choose: Yacht Interior Design 1 or Introduction to Yacht Exterior & Interior Design?
Both courses are suitable for beginners, but they serve different purposes.
Yacht Interior Design 1
A specialized and profession-oriented foundation in the yacht interior design process, from General Arrangement drawings and space planning through furniture, materials, verification, production, project presentation, and a final interior design project. Best for: Students who want to focus specifically on yacht interiors and begin a structured professional specialization.
Introduction to Yacht Exterior & Interior Design
A broad and practical foundation in the history, principles, materials, documentation, and integrated development of yacht exteriors and interiors. Best for: Students who want to explore both exterior and interior design and understand how the two disciplines interact.
Comparison Table
| Broad foundation Introduction to Yacht Exterior & Interior Design | Interior specialization Yacht Interior Design 1 | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Explore the broader field of yacht exterior and interior design. | Build a professional foundation specifically in yacht interior design. |
| Scope | Exterior and interior design and the relationship between them. | Yacht interiors explored in greater depth. |
| Approach | Broad, foundational and interdisciplinary. | Specialized, profession-oriented, and process-focused. Level 1 of a three-course specialist series. |
| Practical focus | Material boards, layouts, CAD, hull forms, drawings, specifications, schedules, and visuals. | General Arrangement drawings, interior spaces, furniture, mock-ups, suppliers, materials, technical considerations, production, project presentation, professional roles, and portfolio development. |
