What will you learn?
The first of a three-part series dedicated to yacht modeling with Rhinoceros (Rhino 7), this course will bring you from a beginner to an intermediate level. At the end of the course, you will feel confident to create your own first designs.
The course explains how to move easily through the software interface and provides detailed explanations to discover and manage all the basic geometries used in naval and yacht applications. It also defines a consistent workflow for an organized design with Rhinoceros and contains a bonus lesson explaining how to export your models to Maxsurf.
The last part is dedicated to the hands-on development of a daysailer boat 3D model, which is the model we have chosen for this Level 1 course.
The course is video-based and on-demand and can be followed at your own pace.
It contains videos, quizzes, and downloadable documents and gives you access to the course’s virtual private classroom, where you can interact with the instructor and fellow students.
Students completing the course will obtain the Course Certificate.

- To follow the course, it is not necessary to have any prior knowledge of naval architecture, 3D modeling or Rhinoceros. Some knowledge of naval terminology, although not required, will help you in the journey.
- A minimum Navalapp membership level of “Subscriber” (free membership) is required to enroll in this course.
Software & Software License
This course teaches the software Rhino 7. Its content is valid for both Rhino 7 and Rhino 6. Students can follow the course with either software version 7 or 6. The course does not provide a license for the software. However, the software owner offers a 90-day free full version for evaluation and also discounts for students in state-accredited schools and faculties. After a thorough evaluation, the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) has found that Navalapp’s course Yacht 3D Modeling with Rhino. Level 1 meets the requirements for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of the Institution. Therefore, RINA has considered that the course warrants their recognition and has issued a Certificate of Endorsement.
During the evaluation, RINA studied different aspects of the course, such as learning aims, content and structure, whether the information is up-to-date and is factually correct, students’ evaluations of the course, the supporting information and materials, the instructor’s expertise, the method by which the students are evaluated, and Navalapp’s organization standards.
