The Course

Hi, everyone.

Welcome to our new course on Yacht Surveying.

My name is Vladimir Kostov, and I will be the instructor for this course.

We have designed the course in a manner suitable for everyone who is passionate about boats and yachts and wants to venture a bit more into the boating world.

The course is divided into four sections, each with separate modules related to the topic of the sections.

Yes, surveying is a practical job. And yes, you must get ready to get your hands dirty if you want to do this job. But we will also take a look at some desk jobs and regulatory and legal matters, knowledge of which can always be a plus for the surveyor’s job.

In the first section of the course, Introduction and Regulatory Matters, we will go through some of the main international organizations that form an inseparable part of the marine industry. We will briefly explain their involvement in the marine industry and provide as many practical examples as possible. And, of course, we will discuss some rules and regulations that must be observed in the industry.

In the second section of the course, Types of Surveys, we will review some of the main types of surveys that surveyors may be requested to perform during their careers. Here, we will touch on some organizations in the marine industry that may be directly involved in requesting and giving instructions for performing those surveys. We will also provide some practical pointers for the surveyors.

In the third section of the course, Surveying Crafts of Different Construction Materials, we will look at the main types of construction materials used in boatbuilding and the specifics of inspecting boats depending on those different types of materials.

In the last section, the Survey Process, we will discuss some important matters related to the survey itself, including guidelines in the preparation and the survey process. We will give practical guidance on safety-related matters because, as we said earlier, surveying is a practical job, and you must be on the field to do it. That means being around various types of equipment or machinery that may present different sorts of hazards to personal health and well-being. So practical measures in this respect must be taken.

We hope you will enjoy our course, and we’re looking forward to starting this journey into the Yacht Surveying world together with you.
