In this first course of a series dedicated to Maxsurf, we will focus on the Maxsurf Modeler.
We will work on creating two models from their respective linesplans: a sharp bilge (also known as hard chine) pilot boat and a sailing boat with a round bilge.
In both projects, you will learn commands related to the shapes of the surfaces and how to work with parameters and inputs, recognizing the impact they may have on the calculations. You will also learn to establish the optimal methodology to define the surfaces, such as the type, the rigidity, the quantity, and the distribution to be used, and to interpret and validate the results obtained.
After completing the course, you will be able to apply the modeling techniques to vessels of any length.
Project #1
In the first project, a pilot boat will be modeled using different surfaces. It will be modeled from the bottom of the hull to the specific details, such as the rounded joints of the transom with the side, the cabin of the boat, bulwarks, etc. This constitutes the first step of modeling in Maxsurf Modeler because it usually begins with modeling boats with sharp bilge and straight sections and then moves on to models with more complex lines, as the one featured in Project #2.
Project #2
In the second project, we will use all the knowledge learned in Project #1 to model a sailing yacht with rounded bilges from a known linesplan, following an analogous procedure. As in the previous Project, we will model the hull and other details.
