Our new Conversation is out!

In this episode, we have the pleasure of welcoming the Revel Sailing Team — a student team that we’re not only following, but also proud to sponsor.

During the conversation, we explore the team’s journey from its beginnings to the present day — how they are organized, their design, engineering, and production process, the races they have participated in, their goals and challenges, and how the entire experience is enriching their education, helping them grow as students, and preparing them for their future careers.

About the Revel Sailing Team

The Revel Sailing Team is a student project that began at the University of La Spezia in Italy in the mid-2010s. Its main goal at that time was to design, engineer, and build a sailing boat to compete in the 1001 Vela Cup — an international regatta where university students design, build, and race innovative sailing boats.

But after its first participation, time moved on. The students graduated, and with no new members to carry it forward, the team — along with its knowledge and experience — faded away. Until 2023. That year, a new group of students decided to bring the project back to life, once again with the 1001 Vela Cup in mind. They refitted Corsara, the team’s old boat, and began designing a completely new one from scratch — Alba.

Despite facing time constraints during their first participation with Alba in the 2024 race, the team gained valuable experience — and still managed to achieve an impressive third place with Corsara.

This year, with more time to design, build, and test, their hard work paid off — earning second place with Corsara and third place with Alba in the competition.

Now, the team is looking ahead to a new challenge: the Foiling SuMoth Challenge — a student-led innovation competition focused on designing, building, and sailing sustainable foiling sailboats within the International Moth class. Unlike traditional races, the SuMoth Challenge is a comprehensive project that evaluates teams not only on performance, but also on sustainability, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
