Meet the instructor

Hi!

Welcome to this course on sailmaking!

My name is Dario Motta, and I will guide you on this journey into the sailmaking world.

Let me introduce myself first, so you get to know me a bit more.

I am a sail designer currently working in Spain for one of the leading sailmakers in the world. I started sailing as a sport and really as a passion when I was five years old. I knew from very early that I wanted to transform this passion into my career.

I studied Naval Architecture in Italy and then moved to New Zealand to continue my PhD studies at the University of Auckland. Then, I started my career as a sail designer in New Zealand, where I stayed overall for about ten years. Then, I decided to come back to Europe to continue my professional growth as a sail designer.

Working on a sail loft is an incredible experience: being able to see the sails taking shape from just the rolls of material into the finished product and also testing the sail and race with the boats you made sails for is really a true blessing.

I really hope I will be able to share this passion of mine with you and that at the end of the course, you will be as fascinated as I am by the sailmaking.

Welcome!
