Welcome!
Welcome to the Introduction to Offshore Wind course!
Offshore wind energy is a rapidly growing field that is expected to play an important role in our future energy mix. It is a complex technology that involves many different systems and disciplines. We have designed this course to give you a comprehensive idea of this world.
The course
This course provides a clear overview of offshore wind technology, giving students the essential knowledge needed to work in this area. Building on an explanation of basic fluid mechanics, the course will explain the key concepts behind wind turbine and wind farm aerodynamics, the wind resource, wind turbine yield and control, the offshore environment, and the hydrodynamics of turbine foundations.
The course is structured in the following parts:
- Why Offshore wind?
- Components of an Offshore Wind Farm
- Fundamental Fluid Dynamics Concepts
- Aerodynamics of Offshore Wind Turbines
- Offshore Wind Resource
- Wind Turbine Control and Wind Farm Yield
- Hydrodynamics of Offshore Wind Turbines
- Offshore Wind Turbine Design
What will you learn?
By the end of the course, you will understand how all the components of an offshore wind farm work. You’ll be able to:
- Analyze site conditions.
- Select the foundation type.
- Assess energy production.
Skills directly applicable to the wind energy industry.
Additionally, you will understand the principles and procedures behind wind turbine and wind turbine foundation design, focusing on the additional complexities of emerging floating wind turbines.
